Brazil Golden Visa

Brazil is a large diverse country, with an industrialized south and a more rural agricultural north. The north east coast has a number of popular holiday desitinations benefitting from its equatorial climate that gives year-round sunshine. The big cities of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo in the south are the cultural and business centres, while the southern regions have a more seasonal climate. Florianopolis is an island off the southern coast which boasts a thriving IT and hi-tech sector, beautiful coastline and is safer than many urban cities in the mainland. It's proving to be a popular investment location for property, as well as a preferred destination for business people and skilled workers, especially in the digital economy.

I am originally from Brazil and qualified originally there. I have reliable contacts across Brazil to help with both real estate investments and setting up bank accounts and completing immigraton formalities.

Golden Visa

Similar in principle to the Golden Visa that has proven popular in Portugal, Brazil introduced its own version in 2018. The investment required is as follows:

  • real estate either ready-built or under construction
  • located in an urban area
  • value equal to or greater than €200k (1M Brazilian Reals)

Furthermore, for investments in the north or north east of the country, only 30% of this value is required so an investment of around €60k can be enough to qualify.

The fees required are a fraction of those for the Portuguese equivalent and (in my experience) the approval process can be significantly faster too.

Once the investment has been made and the application approved, a visa is granted initially for 2 years, which may then be renewed for a further 2 years. For the duration of each 2 year visa period, the applicant must spend at least 30 days in Brazil. After this 4 year period, the applicant is eligible to apply for Brazilian citizenship.

Aside from the lower costs, the Brazil Golden Visa may be attractive to those who need to move more quickly to obtain a fallback residency, or where European options may currently be suspended or subject to long delays. In particular, Russians leaving the country in opposition to the war with Ukraine would find this route far quicker, cheaper and successful than European alternatives and would not have the same problems due to their nationality in setting up local bank accounts or making transfers.
